Nice for What
Nice for What is the song that turned the Scorpion campaign into a victory lap before the album even arrived. Produced by BlaqNmilD and Murda Beatz, the track is built around a chopped sample of Lauryn Hill's 'Ex-Factor' from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, layered over a New Orleans bounce drum pattern that owes its DNA to Big Freedia, Cash Money, and Rebirth Brass Band. Drake is widely read as offering a fast-cycling, hook-loaded address to women who are 'too busy' for the men in their lives — a deliberate, sympathetic counterpoint to the complaint mode of Hotline Bling. The Karena Evans-directed video was an event in itself, featuring a long list of cameos including Issa Rae, Tracee Ellis Ross, Olivia Wilde, Letitia Wright, Misty Copeland, Yara Shahidi, and others, each filmed in their own self-styled vignette. Released in April 2018, Nice for What debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and became Drake's second consecutive chart-topping single, holding off the late-Cardi B and Childish Gambino challengers of the season.
