Try Harder
"Try Harder" frames effort and grind as both message and personal mandate. It reads as a young, unsigned artist converting his own uncertainty into a work-ethic anthem — the come-up narrative that runs through almost every early mixtape rapper, given Drake's particular introspective slant. The 40 and Boi-1da production keeps it understated, letting the determination carry. As a Room for Improvement deep cut it's not a standout, but it's representative: this is a tape largely about wanting more and not yet having it, and "Try Harder" states that drive almost too plainly. In the long view it's an early, unvarnished look at the ambition that powered everything that followed.
