"Faded" works the haze of intoxication and emotional dimming — being checked out, blurred, somewhere between numb and reflective. It reads as an early instance of the altered-state melancholy that would become a recurring Drake atmosphere, the late-night, slightly-untethered feeling 40's production specialized in evoking. Here the 40 and Boi-1da palette keeps things dim and submerged, well-matched to the theme. As a Comeback Season deep cut it's not a standout, but it's a clear precursor mood: the woozy, introspective, after-everything register that the breakthrough work would render far more vividly. A small early sample of an emotional texture that became central to the Drake sound.
