"Don't U Have a Man" engages a complicated, ethically gray relationship scenario — pursuing or being pursued by someone who's already attached. It reads as an early instance of the morally ambivalent, self-aware-but-still-doing-it relationship writing that would become one of Drake's most discussed (and divisive) modes. Rather than resolving the tension, the song sits in it, which is recognizably his approach. The 40 and Boi-1da production keeps it dim and intimate. As a Comeback Season deep cut it's minor in profile but notable in lineage: the willingness to narrate messy romantic situations without flattering himself is present here years before the records that made that approach famous.
