Take Care
Featuring Rihanna
Take Care, the title track of Drake's 2011 album, is built around Jamie xx's reworking of Gil Scott-Heron's 'I'll Take Care of You' — itself a cover of the Brook Benton standard. The track took Jamie xx's haunting electronic flip and grafted on a vocal duet with Rihanna in which both artists trade promises of patience in a relationship coming out of damage. Produced by Jamie xx and Noah '40' Shebib, the song is widely read as a meditation on relationship aftermath, with Drake and Rihanna positioned as two veterans of public-facing romances offering each other quiet recovery. Released as the third single from Take Care, it became one of the album's defining moments and a frequent live highlight on Drake's tours. The pairing with Rihanna also helped seed years of collaborations and constant tabloid speculation about their relationship. The song's looping piano, hand-drum percussion, and faintly euphoric synth wash made it one of the moments that taught a generation of pop producers how spacious a hit could be.
