I'm Upset

I'm Upset was released as one of Scorpion's pre-album singles in mid-2018 and is widely read as a venting record — grievances about money, exes, legal entanglements, and people who want a piece of him delivered in a clipped, irritable cadence. While the song itself is a fairly direct list of frustrations, its lasting cultural footprint came from the music video, a Degrassi: The Next Generation reunion that gathered Drake's former castmates and became a viral nostalgia event. That video did much of the work of keeping Drake's narrative warm in the weeks before Scorpion's release. On the album the track functions as a transitional rap cut, less essential than the singles around it but part of the steady drip that sustained attention through a turbulent rollout.
